One of Barossa’s benchmarks for highly slurpable, rich, ripe Shiraz the 2019 vintage ticks all the boxes once again. Fruit is sourced from the Barossa sub districts of Greenock (63%), Craneford (35%) and Nuriootpa (2%) with vines aged between 2 and 65 years old. The lower Nuirootpa component attributable to a bad frost event that hit the vineyard. Maturation took place in predominately second and third fill American oak puncheons for 23 months.

Rich and plump, in the classic Barossa Shiraz mould, this is one of Elderton’s best renditions of their Estate Shiraz to date.

Midnight black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Wafting out of the glass with great intensity are dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas which are followed by vanillin oak, hints of earthy dark chocolate and spicy fennel. Rich, concentrated and flush with amply fleshed fruit, the palate is laden with opulent dark plum, liquorice and blackberry flavours which meld into dark chocolate, vanillin oak, subtle earthy fennel elements and spice. Silky smooth tannins further enhancing the wines moreish appeal. Excellent power with nicely balanced acidity and a long sumptuous aftertaste that has a plump feel to it.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
