A much spicier combination is built from notes of both red and dark currant with lovely violet, lavender and rose petal nuances. As is always the case, the mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is notably finer with excellent detail that also characterizes the surprisingly powerful but balanced and wonderfully long finale. This overtly stony effort is really quite classy and a wine that should age gracefully for years. Drink from 2031+.

One of the most elegant, ethereal wines in the cellar is the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, a single-barrel cuvée that wafts from the glass with scents of rose petals, orange rind, sweet red berries and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and perfumed, with melting tannins and succulent acids, it will offer a broad drinking window. Drink 2025 - 2050.

The 2019 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru felt comparatively closed following after the Les Brouillards, offering aromas of tightly wound, earthy black fruit mixed with autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry. This is a structured, burly Les Caillerets, although it needs a little more precision and tension on the finish, which feels slightly blunt at the moment. Drink 2023-2033.

Pale to mid purple, the bouquet is very lively, delivering a powerful floral touch on top of high-quality deep raspberry fruit, which follows on the palate and stretches through superbly to the finish, beautifully balanced with pinpoint acidity, minerality even.
