2019 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques Vieille Vigne Premier Cru
Spicier if equally restrained aromas are comprised mostly of wild red and dark berries plus whiffs of earth, humus, anise, violet and gentle wood. The sleekly textured and tautly muscular flavors are concentrated and powerful and the intensity is most impressive as it does a slow build from the mid-palate culminating in a superbly complex and well-balanced finale. This youthfully austere and beautifully harmonious effort, in fact the word Zen comes to mind, is also going to require extended cellaring in order to realize its full, and considerable, potential. One to look for. Drink 2034+.
Allen Meadows - Burghound
Offering up aromas of wild berries, cassis, peonies, exotic spices and orange rind, Fourrier's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is medium to full-bodied, lively and enveloping, with a deep and multidimensional core of fruit, bright acids and fine concentration. Seamless and elegant, it's an especially sensual vintage of this cvuée.
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)
The vines in the lower part date to 1955, those in the upper part 1910, another example of the exceptional vine heritage chez Fourrier. The 2019 Clos St-Jacques vieille vigne is another masterpiece in all departments, beginning with a deep, dark, crimson colour. It is brilliantly classy in bouquet, all is there, a little more in dark fruit than red, builds complexity the further back, a touch of liquorice. Clearly very fine and has retained freshness.
