One of Coonawarra’s long standing Estate’s, the Zema family having been crafting wines from their vineyards for nearly 40 years. The family arrived from Italy in 1953 bringing with them a wealth of traditional vineyard practices and experience. In 1982 they purchased their first 20 acre property, located in the heart of the famed terra rossa strip adjacent to Coonawarra landmarks Mildara, Rouge Homme and Wynns. Eight acres were already planted to Shiraz, the remaining 12 acres were subsequently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.
We’ve been selling Zema Estate wines for over 30 years and this is the first occasion we can recall where there’s been a packaging update. Gone is the classic Burgundy coloured label replaced by a new sleek modern look.
Matured for 18 months in small French oak Hogshead barrels. Midnight black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense blackcurrant and mulberry aromas flood the nostrils followed by spicy vanillin cedar, tobacco, earth and subtle choc mint notes. Rich blackcurrant fruits engulf the medium to full bodied palate with notions of liquorice, vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco and choc mint characters also chiming in. A ripe sturdy tannin structure lends firmness to what is a long deeply fruited yet robust finish.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
