2018 Sons of Eden Pumpa Cabernet Sauvignon

Pumpa is Sons of Eden's tribute to one of the pioneers of Eden Valley viticulture, Len Pumpa. Some previous vintages have been labelled as Cabernet Shiraz, however, the 2018 has a higher proportion of Cabernet in the blend being made up of (87%) meaning that it can be labelled as Cabernet Sauvignon. Maturation took place in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads for 15 months.
Midnight black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Expressive nose with aromas of red to dark currant fruits tinged with dried herbs and tobacco being offered up. Some spicy cedar notes and a faint whiff of bay leaf are also present. Full bodied and boldly flavoured, the palate is decorated with rich red to black currant and mulberry fruits. Sitting underneath are complexing elements of dried herbs, tobacco, subtle black olive and spicy cedar. Excellent power with ripe, slightly chewy tannins providing a solid backbone. Finishes quite juicy and very long.
