The Seabrook family have a long history in the Australian wine industry, dating back to 1878 when William Seabrook established one of Australia’s earliest wine merchants, W.J. Seabrook & Son. Today, fifth generation member Hamish Seabrook carries on the tradition. After graduating from Adelaide University with a bachelor of Oenology, Hamish went on to make wine for Best’s Great Western where industry legend Viv Thomson took him under his wing. After several other senior winemaking roles, Hamish established his own brand continuing the families long involvement in the wine industry.
Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Spiralling out of the glass are heady ripe blackberry, liquorice and black cherry scents which are followed by gently smoked vanillin cedar, fennel, hints of dark chocolate and pepper. Rich blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits carry a plush feel. On the back half are notions of spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth, fennel and blackpepper. Graphite like tannins lend a muscular feel to the finish. Solid power with the long aftertaste showcasing Great Western’s hallmark refinement and structure.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…..
95/5% Great Western/Barossa; planted mid-1980s; matured 26 months in 30% new French oak hogsheads. The fine-grained mineral structure of Great Western provides a wonderful lattice to support fruit of satsuma plum, blackberry and licorice depth. Accents of pepper declare regional distinctiveness, eloquently underlined with dark chocolate French oak. Drink by 2033.
