2018 Sanguine Estate Inception Shiraz
Over the last decade or so Sanguine Estate have steadily built a reputation as one of Heathcote’s top producers making rich, intensely flavoured wines that have brought a loyal following. Their mid level Shiraz ‘Inception’ is a classic example of what the Heathcote district does best. Ben Riggs continues to consult the Hunter family in their endeavours. Maturation takes place in predominately French oak barriques, approximately 10% new, for a period of 18 months.
Rich, opulent and dense, this is a classic example of Heathcote Shiraz that possesses prodigious power.
Magnificent colour saturation featuring an impenetrable inky black core and an equally deep black dark red hue. Intense aromatics of blackberry, dark plum, liquorice and black cherry fills the nostrils followed by vanillin cedar, subtle earthy fennel notes and pepper. Boasting superb richness, opulence and density, the full bodied palate is engulfed lavish blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits which flow over a vanillin oak, subtle scorched earth and spicy fennel back drop. Seamlessly integrated velvet like tannins add polish yet also have structure. Outstanding power with a prodigiously long and hedonistic finish that lingers well after the wine has been swallowed. Drink over the next 6-8 years.
