2018 Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz
The name Pertaringa means 'belonging to the hills' and originates from the local Kaurna indigenous language. Established in 1980 by leading South Australian viticulturalists Geoff Hardy and Ian Leask, the Pertaringa vineyards located in the foothills behind McLaren Vale have consistently produced rich, full flavoured value for money reds.
Pitch black in colour with a deep dark red black hue. Rising out of the glass are lifted spicy dark plum and liquorice scents which are trailed by subtle meaty fennel and blackpepper notes. Since our last tasting, nearly two years ago, this wine has really opened up and shows much more flesh. Medium to full in body, rich dark plum and liquorice fruits have a plush feel over a background of peppered meats, lightly toasted vanillin cedar and earthy dried herb characters. Velvet smooth tannins meld into a long juicy pepper infused finish.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
