Established in 1955 by former Czech vigneron Paul Osicka, this is Heathcote’s oldest producer, 2020 marking the 65th anniversary of the planting of the vineyard. Today, grandson Simon tends the 10 hectares of Shiraz vineyard producing a rich, highly revered Shiraz that always disappears quickly off the shelves. Fruit grown on different soil types was picked and fermented separately in small open top pots. With extended time on skins the wine was pressed and then matured in French Oak for 14 months, including 20% new oak.

Brimming with rich juicy fruit and possessing a charming freshness this is yet another marvellous Heathcote Shiraz from Paul Osicka.

Dense inky black core with a deep dark purple hue. Captivating aromatics of freshly crushed blackberry, dark plum and liquorice tinged by a faint whiff of violets enchant the olfactory senses. Hints of blueberry, vanillin cedar and pepper then chime in. Rich, juicy and concentrated yet also possessing a charming freshness, the palate is awash with lavish blackberry, dark plum, liquorice and subtle blueberry fruits which show terrific carry and drive. Vanillin cedar, faint notions of earth and pepper are also present on the powerful finish. Silky yet structural tannins with a long opulent blue and black fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
I've always had a soft spot for Paul Osicka's wines. A producer whose attention to detail flows from the vineyard to the winery, not so much marketing. Respect. This has all the regional hallmarks - the blue fruits, bay leaf and warm earth - but also its own unique DNA. A depth of flavour without being too much. It's glossy with smooth, supple tannins and finishes long. Drink by 2030.
