Both the Nietschke and Kalleske families are two of the Barossa’s great pioneers of grape growing with a lineage dating back to the 1840’s. In 1968 the two families were joined by the marriage of John Kalleske and Lorraine Nietschke. Today their sons, lead by winemaker Troy Kalleske run the vineyard and winery.
The 2018 vintage was superb, delivering good yields of high quality fruit. Select vineyards from across North-Western Barossa, including the renowned Greenock sub region were utilised to produce the Julius Shiraz. Maturation took place in a combination of seasoned and new French and American oak for a period of 24 months.

A rich, plush Barossa Shiraz that slips across the palate like liquid silk.

Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black stained hue. Heady scents of liquorice, blackberry and dark plum waft through the nostrils trailed by notions of vanillin cedar, hints of mocha and spice. Rich, plump and seductive the full bodied palate is layered with lush dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and subtle dark chocolate flavours that display sweeping power across a silky tannin structure that has a cashmere like feel to it. Underpinning the immense level of fruit are elements of nicely toasted vanillin cedar, traces of fennel and pepper. Finishes long, rich and plush.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
