2018 Mountadam Vineyards Patriarch High Eden Shiraz
Established in 1972 by the late David Wynn, Mountadam is one of Australia’s oldest cool climate vineyards. Situated on a unique rocky outcrop at 570 metres above sea level, Mountadam is still to this day one of Australia's most elevated vineyards. Since 2005, the vineyard has been owned by South Australian businessman David Brown, who has made significant investment in vineyard improvement and expansion. The ‘Patriarch’ is Mountadam’s flagship Shiraz, recognising the Patriarch and founder of Mountadam, David Wynn.
A rich, sumptuous Eden Valley Shiraz that possesses a super plush feel.
Matured for 20-24 months in French oak barriques. Pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas waft through the nostrils with great intensity trailed by some subtle toasted vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and pepper notes. Rich, silky textured and opulent, the full bodied palate is drenched in waves of dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fruit. Lying in the background are notions of vanillin cedar, subtle scorched earth and peppered fennel characters. Boasting superb power and depth it has sleek, cashmere like tannins, finishing long and super plush.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
