2018 M.Chapoutier Les Granilites Saint-Joseph

Dense black as night core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated dark to black cherry and liquorice fruits draw the nose in with some dried meat, scorched earth, leather and peppered herb notes ensuing. Rich black cherry and liquorice fruits carry medium body weight and an elegant feel with some smoked meat, dried herb, leather and peppered earth elements lending complexity though the back half. Chewy mouth feel with a sturdy graphite like tannin structure. Concludes medium to long and savoury.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

As always, the 2018 Saint-Joseph Les Granilites shows more crushed-stone minerality than the Deschants bottling. It's also deeper and richer, with blueberries and raspberries that show an extra dimension of freshness and precision. It's medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish that bodes well for the future. Drink 2022-2035.
