2018 Koltz Dog Day Shiraz
Koltz wines reside in the cooler McLaren Vale sub district of Blewitt Springs which generally reaches optimal ripeness 2-4 weeks later than the rest of McLaren Vale. This typically imparts a more prominent peppery character to their Shiraz. Winemaker Mark Day has over 30 years of winemaking experience including 9 vintages working in Europe, particularly Italy.
Inky black heart with a deep dark purple black tinged hue. Lifted inky blackberry and liquorice aromas meld into vanillin cedar, dried meats and blackpepper. Full and rich, there’s a youthful, inky like density to the blackberry and liquorice fruit that’s overlaid by a burst of blackpepper. Vanillin cedar and spicy dried meats sit underneath. Ripe chewy tannins impart some firmness. Finishes fresh and long with a spicy pepper infused aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
