Jim Barry’s Single Vineyard The Farm Cabernet Malbec comes from Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1997 and Malbec vines planted in 1998 at their Lodge Hill property. The style is a nod to the wines Jim Barry was making in the 1960’s and 1970’s when Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec were often blended.
Comprised of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Malbec with maturation taking place in French oak. Dense inky black colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Flooding the nostrils are pronounced blackcurrant and plum scents which are interwoven with some liquorice, gentle cedary tobacco notes and bay leaf. Rich red to black currant and plum fruits carry a fleshy feel over cedary tobacco, dried herb and spicy black olive characters. Fine grained tannin structure lends polish to the long spicy blackcurrant and plum driven conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
