Inky black in colour with a bright dark purple hue. Fresh dark cherry aromas combine with red currant, hints of liquorice, fresh herbs, light dusty cedar and subtle violet notes. Bright dark cherry and plum fruits show youthful appeal underpinned by vibrant acidity. Infusions of fresh herbs, light earth and spice ensue. Dryish finish with grainy tannins and an elegant medium length aftertaste.

The Clare Valley, Langhorne Creek and Margaret River share what is often regarded as a second-rate variety, its best use as a blend component. Well, there are enough very good, fleshy dark fruits to prove it's capable of making really pleasing wines. This, with its plush fruits and ripe tannins, proves the point. Drink by 2038.
