2018 Evans & Tate Redbrook Estate Cabernet Merlot

Pitch black core with a deep dark red black hue. Lifted blackcurrant aromas infused with black olive are followed by cigar box, scorched earth and bay leaf notes. Rich blackcurrant and mulberry fruits are underscored by dusty tannins which provide a sturdy framework. Black olive, cigar box, earth and spicy bay leaf incursions ensue. Excellent depth and concentration with a long aftertaste that has a robust feel to it.

Matured in large- and medium-format French oak (15% new) for up to 15 months. 2018 saw the most cabernet franc and malbec ever included in this wine, alongside the cabernet sauvignon and merlot. And to good effect! This is a cracker. Succulent red fruits on the palate, backed by salty spice and a frankly slinky texture. The tannins are shapely and seductive. The whole package is hugely impressive. But not surprising: The Redbrook range of wines rock. Drink by 2035.
