2018 Eldridge Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir
Aged in French oak barriques of which 20% were new for 16 months. Semi translucent red to dark colour with black shaded edges and a light red hue. Spicy cherry, rhubarb and strawberry scents unfurl from the glass followed by dried herb, forest floor and meaty cedar like notes. Light in body the palate makes a supple entry with red cherry, rhubarb and winter strawberry fruits overlaying forest floor, dried herbs, game and spicy cedar. Polished tannins with vibrant acidity and a medium to long conclusion.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews….
A mesh of six clones, dry-grown and planted in front of the property. The most single of single vineyards! Fully destemmed, soaked and fermented under the aegis of natural yeasts, before ageing for 16 months in French oak, 20% new. The result is a pallid ruby, bristling with intent while belying the intensity of flavour that is to come: sour cherry, loganberry and other alpine red fruits. The tannins are attenuated, slaty and thirst-quenching, melding with maritime acidity to pull the melee long. This stands defiant and righteous in the face of so much pinot in this country made with excessive whole-bunches. Drink by 2026.
