2018 Domaine Duroche Gevrey Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois

Burgundy, FRANCE
$185. 00 Bottle
$2220.00 Dozen
ABV: 13.5%
Closure: Cork

Domaine Duroche is one of the brightest stars to appear in the Burgundy landscape over recent years, and with numerous comparisons to Domaine Rousseau the wines are now incredibly hard to come by. While the name is relatively new to the world, the family have been making wine in Gevrey Chambertin since 1953, and early on they aquired fantastic plots of Gevrey villages, premier cru and Grand Cru including Chambertin Clos de Beze. The wines are incredibly pure, have excellent concentration and depth, and show a fantastic translation of site.

Other Reviews....
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois has turned out very nicely in bottle, mingling aromas of sweet berry fruit with hints of licorice, wilted rose petals, forest floor and orange rind. Medium-bodied and supple, it's bright and enveloping, with lovely acids and melting tannins. As I've observed before, this cuvée derives from a parcel planted in 1953 that tends to produce lots of small, "millrandé" berries.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Roi, which is completely de-stemmed, is tightly wound on the nose, quite strict and almost Morey-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied and delivers very pure, almost crystalline tart red fruit with a touch of white pepper toward the composed, persistent finish. Excellent.

All is right here, Pierre feels, magnificent plants, a great place in which he is always happy to be working. Never any rotten fruit, always good acidity, and does not suffer from vintage extremes. The vines were planted in 1952 and made apart since 2005. Always around 30 hl/ha. Glowing very dense purple, the nose shows infinite class in the glass and there is an explosion of ripe but fresh fruit. This transcends its appellation. A huge volume of fruit to enjoy here!
