A highly expressive and ultra-elegant nose flashes a strikingly pretty array of spice and floral elements on the dark raspberry and cassis-suffused aromas. The graceful and lilting middle weight flavors also possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension that adds lift to the chiseled, stony and sneaky long finish. This too should be approachable after 6 to 8 years but amply reward 15+.

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a bewitching bouquet of ample black cherry, blueberry and violet aromas, a quintessential Amoureuses defined by its purity and controlled opulence. The palate is, again, extremely pure and caressing, offering sorbet-like freshness and palpable energy, and delivering a crescendo of flavor as it fans out on the finish with blueberry, cassis, crushed stone and blood orange notes. Fabulous.

Black in colour again with thin purple band at the rim. François Millet wanted to do the tasting with black glasses so as to prevent tasters being put off by the depth of the colours in 2018! Inky depths here, much more black fruit. At the moment this somewhat hides the usual opulent magic of Les Amoureuses. There are black plums and blackberry juice instead, and a heavyweight finish. But ask again in 20 years when my conservative score may look foolish.
