2018 Craiglee JADV Shiraz
JADV stands for Just A Dash of Viognier. Midnight black in colour with a vibrant dark red black tinged hue. Spicy red to dark plum and liquorice aromas infused with blackpepper are trailed by some scorched earth, dried herb and meaty notes. Laden with rich red to dark fruits and possessing ample freshness the refined mid weight palate also has notions of scorched earth, graphite and peppered meats present. Tense structured feel with fine yet sturdy tannins. Concludes elegant, savoury and fresh.
Cellar 5-6 years.
“7 Seconds” by Youssou N’Dour and Neneh Cherry plays softly in the background. A shiraz with viognier appropriate song, perhaps.
This is darker than expected, inky and rich, blackberries, plum, dried fig, salted liquorice and eucalypt-Aussie bush characters in the mix. Firm tannins swish through that supple blackness and the finish is all graphite and smoky spice. It’s a wine that feels firm now, destined for cellars, complex and satisfying with its stretch of deep fruit and spice characters. Patience. Drink 2025-2035+
