2018 Balnaves of Coonawarra Chardonnay
Fruit was whole bunch pressed and the juice barrel fermented on solids in new (25%) and seasoned Louis Latour burgundy barriques, with 50% being wild yeast, 50% AWRI 1375 yeast. Lees contact for eleven months preceded bottling in March 2019. Brilliant very pale straw almost water like core with a light tinge of green around the edges. Pronounced white peach and nectarine scents intermix with cashew, traces of dried honey, biscuity nougat and subtle gun flint notes. Vibrant white peach, pear and nectarine fruits fill the mouth and have a fresh feel. Elegant, lightly creamed mid palate texture with citrusy nougat, light dried honey and biscuity oak elements in the background. Finishes with refreshing acidity and a long detailed aftertaste that sees subtle infusions of gun flint emerge.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
