2018 Ashbrook Estate Chardonnay
Family owned and operated since 1975, Ashbrook Estate is one of Margaret River’s oldest wineries. As is the tradition with this Chardonnay, 50% of the wine undergoes primary fermentation in brand new French oak barriques and the remaining half in stainless steel, where they remained and were matured on lees for 8 months. Malolactic fermentation was avoided to preserve the fruits freshness. After blending and bottling the wine is then given a further 12 months bottle aging before being released.
2018 marks the 40th consecutive vintage for Ashbrook Estate. Brilliant pale straw colour with a gleaming greenish highlight around the edges and a watery hue. Leaping from the glass are intense aromatics of spiced ripe peaches, tropical fruits and light honeyed notes. Subtle toast and cinnamon scents follow on. Rich, luscious fleshy peach, nectarine, tropical fruit and subtle honeyed characters flood the mouth overshadowing a light toast and spicy cinnamon back drop. Finishes with a burst of citrus freshness on the long cream tinged aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
