The Hungarian ‘Bikaver’ wine translates to ‘Bulls Blood’ and dates back to the 1500’s when the Hungarians were fighting the Turks. It was a wine for strength in battle! The first Veritas ‘Bulls Blood’ was produced in 1967 by R. H. Binder and the label remains quite similar still today. Maturation takes place in a combination of American and French oak puncheons of which 80% is new.
A blend of Shiraz and Mataro. Dense midnight black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Heady black raspberry, dark plum and liquorice aromas sail out of the glass and are pursued by earthy dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spicy fennel notes. Rich and voluptuous, the palate delivers a concentrated flavour profile of black raspberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits. Toasty vanillin oak, earthy dark chocolate and spice characters then chime in on the back half. Velvet smooth yet structural tannins with a long plush aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14%
