2017 Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon
This excellent forward drinking style of Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon is made from a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot and was matured in French oak barriques (10% new with the balance 1-5 year old) for a period of 12 months.
Laden with red and blackcurrant fruit this eminently drinkable Margaret River Cabernet is a terrific buy for $20.
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. The nose shows good elevation with red to blackcurrant and mulberry scents intermingling with cedary tobacco characters, bay leaf and spice. Despite the cooler vintage this Cabernet shows remarkable richness and polish with a combination of red and black currant fruits flooding the elegant, medium bodied palate. Soft and juicy like in its feel, mulberry, cedary tobacco characters, light earthy bay leaf and spice then chime in to provide additional complexity. Glossy fine grained tannins are beautifully integrated. Concludes with a long red to blackcurrant and bay leaf tinged aftertaste. A Margaret River benchmark for entry level Cabernet – fantastic value.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews.....
Bright crimson-purple; this has provenance written large across its visage, likewise purity. Restructuring of the Vasse Felix offers to the market has lifted, not compromised, this dark, fruit-filled cabernet. Drink by 2032.
