2017 Two Hands Lily's Garden Shiraz
Impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. Intense ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas dominate the nose with ripe black cherry, dark chocolate, vanillin oak, subtle earth and spice notes also present. Full bodied, rich and lavish in its mouthfeel, the palate is swamped with blackberry, liquorice and black cherry flavours which are underpinned by dark chocolate, earthy vanillin oak characters and spice. Velvet smooth tannins and excellent power, concluding with a long opulent black fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
More reserved but no less brilliant, the 2017 Shiraz Lily's Garden comes from the McLaren Vale and spent 18 months in just 9% new French oak. Classic Syrah notes of dark black fruits, damp herbs, scorched earth, and obvious minerality give way to a medium to full-bodied beauty that is flawlessly balanced, textured, and seamless. It’s up with the finest vintages I’ve tasted of this cuvée and will keep for upwards of a decade. Drink 2019-2029.
