2017 Tellurian Tranter Shiraz

Matured for 18 months in mostly large format French oak. Dense inky black colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Blackberry, liquorice and plum scents drift through the olfactory senses followed by earthy leather, vanillin cedar and pepper notes. Medium to full bodied, rich blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits have an underlying freshness with vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered earth nuances flowing onto the back half. Finely textured yet sturdy tannins with a long refined aftertaste.

Destemmed, fermented in stainless steel and plastic fermenters, wild-fermented, 12-15 days on skins, with hand or pneumatic plunging, matured in French oak (25% new) for 18 months. The supple, medium-bodied wine delivers its message of purple and black fruits. Totally delicious, as much light to medium-bodied as medium-bodied, its length and aftertaste wholly impressive. Drink by 2030.
