2017 Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune Les Marconnets Premier Cru
Domaine Simon Bize et Fils has to be one of the best kept secrets in Burgundy today. Famed for producing wines with impressive capacity for cellaring, under the care of Chisa Bize the wines are also more dynamic and show greater aromatic detail. The Domaine has some of the oldest average vine age anywhere in the Cote d'Or, and Chisa practices her amalgam of organics and biodynamics coined as "Bize-dynamics". Yields are kept low, and winemaking utilises a high percentage of whole-cluster fermentation.
Other Reviews....
Soft wood frames the exceptionally spicy and fresh liqueur-like aromas of violet, cassis, plum and earth wisps. The lush, round and seductive medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the sappy, solidly complex and balanced finale that is youthfully austere and quite firm. Patience advised. Drink 2029+.

The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets is also showing well, bursting with aromas of sweet spices, orange rind, red berries, rose petal and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and velvety, with juicy acids, lovely purity and an attractive sense of completeness.

The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Marconnets 1er Cru has more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the Les Fournaux, offering ample blackberry, briar and pressed flower aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy, white pepper entry. Subtle hickory notes envelop the finish, which shows fine depth. There is real character to this Premier Cru, and a bit of gutsiness. Drink 2020 - 2031.
