2017 Rob Hall Pinot Noir
Rob Hall was winemaker at Mount Mary for 10 vintages. This wine was matured in seasoned French oak hogsheads, 10% of which were new. Semi translucent dark red colour with a bright light red hue. Attractive aromas of ripe red cherries and winter strawberries laced with dried herbs sail from the glass followed by subtle forest floor and spicy cedar notes. Delicious bright red cherry and strawberry fruits decorate the savoury palate with an undercard of fresh herb infusions, forest floor and spice. Perfectly integrated, very polished tannins and well balanced fresh acidity. Good length with a spicy ripe red cherry, strawberry, fresh herb and forest floor aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews….
Hand-picked in small batches from three Lower and two Upper Yarra vineyards, most destemmed, 10% of the batches fermented with 100% whole bunches, typically 10 days on skins (a few batches for 1 month), matured in French oak (10% new). This shares its elegance with Harriet's Vineyard, and also a balanced web of spicy, savoury tannins. Rob Hall didn't miss the opportunities of the '17 vintage. Drink by 2024.
