Matured in French oak for 18 months. Black as night heart with a deep dark red black hue. Aromas of black cherries, blackberries and liquorice are overlaid by toasty vanillin oak with scorched earth and spicy pepper notes also evident. Rich, opulent in texture and powerful, initial luscious blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits are overtaken by toasty vanillin oak on the back palate. Scorched earth and spice are also present. Ripe chewy tannins with prominent toasty vanillin oak lingering right through the aftertaste. The toasty oak component out of balance with the fruit on this year’s release.
