Totally impenetrable pitch black core with a deep dark red black hue. Potent aromas of liquorice, black cherries, subtle dark chocolate and blackberries fill the olfactory senses followed by toasty vanillin oak, earth and spice. Large scaled, lavish, rich and opulent the palate is flooded with liquorice, ripe black cherry and blackberry flavours. Some fairly prominent toasty vanillin oak then kicks in, elements of earthy dark chocolate and spice also present. Dense ripe chewy tannins provide plenty of structure concluding with a long powerful aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 15.5%

Other Reviews….
From second generation of Jasper Hill, Emily Laughton, and fruit from a family friend grower on different (not Cambrian) soil profile. Fermented in concrete, naturally fermented, no additions. Five week maceration, like the Jasper Hill wines.
Glossy textured red of more red berry spectrum fruit flavours, dusty tannins, some walnut husk nutty savouriness and a swathe of pleasing, gritty tannins. Faint herb and spice, a little more undergrowth character and generally a sense of ‘fruitiness’ taking a back seat with meaty notes and general ‘mineral characters’ taking front seat. Very good wine this.
