2017 Nicks Secret Rutherglen Shiraz Durif

This secret deal is from a famous, heritage listed Rutherglen Estate established in 1864 who are renown for their Durif and fortified production. A blend of 78% Shiraz and 22% Durif, the Shiraz provides the plush fruit whilst the Durif contributes structure. The two varietals were matured separately for 48 months in a mix of French (90%) and American (10%) barriques and puncheons. 30% were new, and the remainder were 3-5 years seasoned oak.

Impenetrable inky black in colour with a very deep dark red black hue. Heady ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and dark plum scents flood the olfactory senses trailed by some vanillin oak, earth and spice. Rich, concentrated and luxurious in its feel the palate is saturated in black plum, blackberry, liquorice and morello cherry fruits which meld into toasty vanillin oak and spicy mocha characters on the back half. Velvety tannins with a long, powerful, voluptuously textured finish. This is the real deal – you will receive the genuine article not an unknown brand, export label or cleanskin.
