2017 Maude Pinot Noir

This wine recently picked up a trophy for the New Zealand wine of the year. Deep dark red core with black tinged edges and a dark red purple hue. Perfumed aromatics of violets, dark cherries, plums and anise blossom from the glass followed by gamey forest floor characters, lightly toasted oak and spice. Rich, fleshy and long the palate features spicy ripe dark cherry, plum and anise flavours over subtle infusions of violets, forest floor and lightly toasted oak. Supple mouthfeel with velvet smooth tannins. Good power, finishing fresh with a lengthy aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
