2017 Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz Cellar Release
Rich and well fleshed with a muscular tannin structure and long robust finish.
In 1964 Jim Barry and his wife Nancy purchased 70 acres of prime farm land from their friend and neighbour, Duncan McRae Wood where they planted their first Shiraz vineyard. The McRae Wood Shiraz is made from declassified Armagh fruit and other top parcels of grapes from the family’s other Clare Valley vineyards.
Midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Expressive liquorice and dark plum aromas mix with vanillin cedar, scorched earth, subtle mint and blackpepper notes. Rich, fleshy dark plum and liquorice fruits are framed by a muscular tannin structure. Spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth, mint and pepper elements extend across the back half. Finishes long and lush with a robust feel.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.3%
Other Reviews….
Standard vinification made irrelevant by the luscious, juicy red and black fruits that continue to seduce the palate right through to the finish and aftertaste. One of the best vintages to date. Drink by 2047.
