In 1964 Jim Barry and his wife Nancy purchased 70 acres of prime farm land from their friend and neighbour, Duncan McRae Wood where they planted their first Shiraz vineyard. The McRae Wood Shiraz is made from declassified Armagh fruit and other top parcels of grapes from the family’s other Clare Valley vineyards.
Inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense dark plum, liquorice and blackberry scents drift from the glass followed by vanillin cedar, fennel and light pepper notes. Medium to full bodied with a plush textural feel, the palate sports spicy dark plum and liquorice fruit over a back drop of lightly smoked vanillin cedar, traces of black olive and peppered earth nuances. Velvet smooth yet well structured tannins concluding long with a touch of refinement.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.3%

Other Reviews…..
Standard vinification made irrelevant by the luscious, juicy red and black fruits that continue to seduce the palate right through to the finish and aftertaste. One of the best vintages to date. Drink by 2047.
