Izway is a partnership of two well-travelled winemakers Brian Conway and Craig Isbel. They like to keep things simple and minimalistic in the winemaking process putting a real emphasis on fruit purity and to this point use mostly older oak. So named as a tribute to two of the boys grandparents, the 2017 Rob & Les is sourced from John, Barb and Andy Kalleske’s Koonunga Hillside & Bruce Block vineyards located in the north of the Barossa Valley. The Hillside Vineyard produces wine with wonderful balance, elegance and structure while the Bruce Block adds depth and concentration to the wine. This years blend also includes 5% of fruit that would normally go into Izway's $150 wine, the Don.

The stellar 2017 vintage has taken this wine to a whole new level.

Outstanding colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core and a very deep dark red black hue. Alluring scents of dark plum, liquorice and hints of ripe black cherry laced with fennel and smoky cedar waft from the glass followed by spicy herb and pepper notes. As close as you can get to bottled silk and bursting with Barossa richness, draping the palate are velvety flavours of spicy dark plums, liquorice and ripe black cherries. Sitting beneath the opulent fruit is an undercard of fennel, smoky vanillin cedar and peppered dried herbs. Seamlessly integrated, cashmere like tannins with balanced acidity providing just the right amount of freshness to the finish. Wonderful power and concentration with a long persistent aftertaste of spiced dark plum, liquorice, fennel, smoky vanillin cedar, a touch of meatiness and pepper. Rich and lavish, yet not over the top, this is Barossa Shiraz at its best.
Drink this seductive beauty over the next 6-8 years.
