Archers Vineyard, Lenswood; a selection of the best plots; matured 10 months in seasoned French oak barriques. The cool, wet 2017 season has given birth to a complex and savoury pinot filled with all the character of sous bois, game, potpourri and bouquet garni. A vibrant core of red cherry and poached strawberry is matched by cool, bright acidity and fine-ground tannins. A long finish holds short-term potential.

This shows the cooler, wetter vintage and has aromas of fresh and dried strawberry with a tawny, leafy edge. Brown tea and earth, too. The palate offers dried strawberries, soft tannins and a drinkable feel. Drink now. Glass stopper.

From Lenswood. Sometimes Alan is spelt with one ‘l’ and sometimes with two. The name ‘Gary, however, should NEVER have a double ‘r’.

Woodsy, spicy, autumnal feel here, with poached strawberry and cedar. It’s medium-bodied, dry but ripe with stawberry, a light grip of dusty tannin, and a sappy feel to the acidity, with a little blood orange tang to a finish of solid length. It’s a charming wine, and what you might call, very ‘Hillsy’. It’s a nice wine all up. Drink 2022 - 2025+
