From a block planted in '69, all matured in American oak with 30% new. Dark red, faint purple hues. Oak impact is obvious from the get-go, adding a pomade-like note to the spicy black fruit. Spice is presumably driven by 30% whole bunch inclusion. And while ripe, it's not unbalanced in any way. The stems add a fine web of tannin, giving shape and definition. The longer the wine breathes, the better it looks, perhaps a function of the cooler '17 vintage.
