Impenetrable midnight black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Ripe morello cherry and liquorice aromas mix with black cherries, toasty vanillin oak and spice. Bold liquorice, black cherry and blackberry flavours confront the palate with underlying vanillin oak, scorched earth and spice ensuing. Firm chewy tannins absorb the fruit finishing with a medium to long aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
While a Northeast Victoria stalwart, it is interesting to see a different shade of durif in the cooler Alpine Valleys. This is dense, sure, amped with a plummy chocolate-clad carapace of firm tannins, gritty and mouth pummelling. Yet there is also a pine-anise-menthol coolness to the wine, that proves engaging. Plenty of time in these bones. Drink by 2032.
