2017 Bindi Wines Dhillon Col Mountain Vineyard Shiraz
Sourced from the Col Mountain vineyard, the 2017 vintage is made primarily from the smooth and aromatic Shiraz clones PT23 and 1654, with a bit of the robust and rich Yalumba and R6WV28 contributing. The Col Mountain wines come from soil rich in red color with plenty of shattered rock, resulting in wines with an earthier and more structured palate. Expect a medium-weighted blend of fruit, earthy and spicy tones, with aromas of black cherry and plum.
Other Reviews....
Youthful even with a few years under its belt and although there’s a mellowing, it’s relaxed. Savoury and earthy with strong ferrous aromas, sumac and dark fruit, the palate is laid out as structured and deep. The tannins are supple and ripe, plenty of them, too, and such a counterpoint to the Pyrette shiraz, albeit from the 2021 vintage. Drink 2022 - 2030.

Jane Faulkner - Halliday's Australian Wine Companion
A relatively new wine with a long history. In 2014, Michael began experimenting with four clones in this Heathcote vineyard and blending the results. This wine shows the rewards of patience. There is so much to like here. Michael’s plan is to leave the wine for at least five years prior to release. Crimson/magenta colour. There is some development here but the wine is still youthful. Lovely aromatics, with dark berries, cassis, beefstock, warm earth and mushrooms. There is a plushness and generosity, even an exuberance on the palate. A lingering finish with very fine, if slightly chewy tannins. The palate sees the full flavours on show with at least another six to eight years of enjoyment here. This is a most welcome addition to the portfolio. Drink 2023-2031.
