2017 Devil's Cave Vineyard Heathcote Shiraz

Matured in French oak barrels. Pitch black in colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Emanating from the glass are aromas of dark plum, liquorice and hints of blueberry followed by toasty oak, subtle dried clove and spice notes. Medium to full bodied, fleshy liquorice, dark plum and blueberry flavours fill the mouth with elements of vanillin cedar, subtle dried herbs and spice sitting underneath. Finely grained tannins with a nicely balanced freshness and medium length aftertaste.

Pushing a pedal of bright acidity and fine-grained tannins across Heathcote's black-fruited dress code, this is a welcome fresh face for the district. Pulpy and vibrant, the regional trademark of forceful mineral soldered to bitter chocolate, iodine, coffee grind, briar and licorice is palpable. Beautifully floral, too. A distinctive drink of poise, grace and indelible richness. Drink by 2032.
