2017 A-Mano Negroamaro
A-Mano (meaning hand made) is the labour of love of the incredibly energetic and enthusiastic American winemaker, Mark Shannon, and partner, Elvezia Sbalchiero. Mark, a born and bred Californian, fell in love with Puglia and “after years of technical winemaking, had almost forgotten that the right way to make wine is with love”. Fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in Salice Salento in the very south of Puglia where the sandy soils are perfect for Negroamaro. No oak is used in the winemaking process, after fermentation the wine is aged in underground concrete tanks.
A rich, chewy red that boasts a long, robust finish.
Dense midnight black colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Heady aromas of dried cherries, liquorice and black plum rise out of the glass trailed by dried herbs, scorched earth and spice. Rich and plump, the full bodied palate is engulfed with black plum, dried cherry, liquorice and black cherry fruits which sit over scorched earth, dried herb and spice back drop. Ripe chewy tannins firm up the finish. The aftertaste long and robust.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
