One of Coonawarra’s long standing Estate’s, the Zema family having been crafting wines from their vineyards for nearly 40 years. The family arrived from Italy in 1953 bringing with them a wealth of traditional vineyard practices and experience. In 1982 they purchased their first 20 acre property, located in the heart of the famed terra rossa strip adjacent to Coonawarra landmarks Mildara, Rouge Homme and Wynns. Eight acres were already planted to Shiraz, the remaining 12 acres were subsequently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Loaded with a mix of rich red and black fruits this is a beautiful expression of Coonawarra Cabernet.

Maturation took place in small French oak barrels for a period of 16 months and was then given a further two years bottle age before being released.
Midnight black dark red colour with a deep dark red hue. Expressive red to black currant and mulberry scents sail out of the glass trailed by vanillin cedar, subtle liquorice, hints of tobacco and spicy bay leaf notes. Medium bodied, the palate is loaded with rich red to black currant, mulberry and more subtle liquorice fruits which overlay a back drop of vanillin cedar, traces of earth, light tobacco and spicy bay leaf. Very polished and refined in its feel with seamlessly integrated tannins melding into a long savoury and elegant aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
Hand-picked, matured for 16 months in French oak. No question about the vintage. This is a full-bodied cabernet that needs 10 years to show its wares, and another 20+ to reach its optimum. Cassis, and an unusual but delicious sunburst of red fruits. Drink by 2040.
