2016 Whistling Eagle Vineyard Eagles Blood Shiraz

Renown as one of Heathcote’s leading growers and viticulturalists, Ian Rathjen also produces small parcels of wine under his own label, Whistling Eagle. Matured in French oak (30% new) for a period of 18 months, the Eagles Blood Shiraz is his ultimate expression of the Cambrian terroir displaying spectacular colour, depth and power.
Midnight black in colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Nosing draws out aromas of dark plum and liquorice followed by some black cherry, earthy vanillin cedar, leather and pepper notes. Rich and concentrated the plushly textured palate is awash with dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fruits which overlay vanillin oak, scorched earth and blackpepper characters. Polished yet structural tannin framework. Concludes long with a silken feel and a deeply fruited earthen aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
