2016 Tyrrell's Stevens Vineyard Hunter Valley Semillon

Hunter Valley, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA
$34. 99
Bottle
$419.88 Dozen
Cellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2021-2027)
ABV: 11.5%
Closure: Stelvin

The Stevens “Glenoak” vineyard is situated on a combination of light sand and red clay soils. The vineyard is dry grown with the earliest plantings being 1911.

Brilliant water like core with a distinct greenish tinge running around the outskirts. Aromas of lime and green apple are overlaid by wet steel and oily toast like notes followed by some lemon butter and spice. Showing a laser like focus are intense lime and green apple fruits which are underpinned by steely acidity. Lemon, faint kerosene and flinty mineral characters flow onto the back half. Dry razor sharp finish with a long mouth watering aftertaste that shows plenty of zip.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 11.5%

Other Reviews….
Some more generous lemon and light stone fruits on the nose here, this has a lot to offer, with a rich nectarine, lemon and lime nose and palate, slippery, gently fleshy and very nicely wrapped into the finish. Drink now or age mid-term.

The only one of these single-vineyard expressions to be machine harvested. Still dry grown. Still an exemplary site, sand and red clay. The broader of the 3 Tyrell's single-vineyard semillons, with a more verdant nose of nettle and greengage, melding with lemon zest, camphor and bath salts. The flavours ease their way across the palate, the stream of filigreed acidity drawing a long arc. My assistant Emi and I both liked this for its immediacy. Delicious from the first sip, albeit, lacking the drive and depth of its siblings. The best of the 3 to breach early. Drink by 2026.

It’s $25 for Private Bin members, but when it’s released in some years, the price is as below. Crisp and zesty style, kind of skittish and certainly energetic. Falls more towards the lime flavour spectrum more than lemon, and has some slight grassy notes, but they add interest rather than detract. Finish is neat and tangy. Tasted over two days, and it looks better today than it did yesterday, which is always encouraging. Drink by 2036.
