Pitch black core with a deep dark red black hue. Aromas of liquorice, dark plum and blackberry have a smoky overlay with dried meats, fennel, scorched earth and spicy pepper also evident. The rich, fleshy palate is decorated with generous spicy dark plum, liquorice and black cherry fruits which meld into lightly smoked vanillin cedar, scorched earth and pepper. Velvet smooth tannins. Excellent depth with an aftertaste that’s long, plush and savoury.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…
Machine-harvested from the Avon Brae Vineyard and a vineyard in the Barossa Valley, open-fermented and matured in French hogsheads (15% new) before blending. Fascinating that this wine should be radically different to its Eden Valley sibling, but there's as much to bind than separate them. Perfectly ripened fruit and French oak may be the keys, the oak more obvious than I'd usually expect. Drink and be happy. Drink by 2031.
