2016 Signatory Vintage Bunnahabhain 8 Year Old 100 Proof Edition #31 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
"...downright beautiful. Rarely does something give me a recurring feeling of enjoyment after the novelty fades, but this whisky sure does." - whiskybase.com
Usually it's Staoisha that's offered by Independents, however this young Bunnah' is of the unpeated variety, drawn from 1st & 2nd Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts. The cask influence is said to be pronounced, and despite being only 8 years old, the whisky doesn't feel particularly young. The flavours are summed up as "sweet and spicy with lots of red overripe fruit, fermented cherry compote, blackberries, dried plums and apricots." Too good to be true at this price? Well, it maybe a bit one dimensional, but going by taster's comments, it might also be the best buy in Signatory's 100 Proof Series to date. At this price, your risk is pretty low. Don't miss out! 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... I find this Bunnahabhain downright beautiful. Rarely does something give me a recurring feeling of enjoyment after the novelty fades, but this whisky sure does. It may be young and a bit rough around the edges, the palate when water has been added is the type of stuff that makes me feel ecstatic. While peated ex-bourbon Bunna may be plentiful on the independent bottler scene, their unpeated sherried liquid is much rarer, and seeing it at this price is almost too good to be true. - whiskybase.com
...I like this a lot. Sherry influence not too over the top, still can pluck out the buna distillate which keeps this one interesting. Honey, apples, raisins and a little mineral/a hint of earthiness (not peat). - whiskybase.com
