2016 Querciabella Mongrana
Founded in 1974, Querciabella have received widespread critical acclaim for its wines which are located throughout Tuscany’s Chianti Classico and Maremma areas. The first vintage of Mongrana was produced in 2005 with fruit sourced from a range of vineyards located in the Tuscan costal region of Maremma. All of the vineyards have been biodynamically grown since inception.
A beautiful mid weight expression of Tuscany that showcases the savoury red to dark fruits of the great 2016 vintage.
A blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon the wine is matured in a mixture of stainless steel tanks and cement. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Nosing offers up a combination of spicy dark cherries and red to blackcurrant scents which overlay dried herbs, tobacco and earthy notes. Refined and slippery in its feel, rich blackcurrant and dark cherry flavours glide effortlessly across the palate, gracefully melding into elements of earthy tobacco characters, dried herbs and spice. Beautifully integrated tannins enhance the wines sense of suppleness. Finishes long and very savoury.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Other Reviews.....
Love the aromas of plums, cherries and currants with hints of flowers and undertones of dried flowers. Full body, round and silky tannins and fresh and bright finish. A blend of sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Needs two or three years to come together, but already beautiful. From biodynamically grown grapes and vegan.
