2016 Powell & Son Kleinig Greenock Mataro

Impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark purple black hue. A fragrant bouquet of black cherry, dark plum and liquorice aromas overlaid by elements of new leather are followed by scorched earth and spice. Decadently rich dark plum, black cherry and liquorice flavours infused with leathery characters fill the mouth over some scorched earth, vanillin cedar and spice. Both opulent and meaty in its mouthfeel with sturdy, slightly rustic tannins imparting some chewiness. Excellent concentration and power, although some will be indifferent to the distinct leathery characters that run through the wine. Long powerful aftertaste of spicy dark plums, black cherries and liquorice all infused with leathery characters, vanillin cedar, scorched earth and dried meats.
