2016 Nicks Secret Clare Valley Shiraz
From a Clare Valley winery renown for their big, heavy reds the fruit for this secret offering was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1919 with maturation taking place in a combination of French and American oak for 2 years.
A large scaled, ultra decadent wine by any measure.
Impenetrable inky black core with an equally deep black dark red hue. Taking shape out of the glass are potent scents of ripe black cherry, liquorice and blackberry which evolve into vanillin oak, subtle scorched earth and blackpepper notes along the way. Rich, thick and densely concentrated the palate is a power house of aniseed, black cherry and blackberry fruits. Firm muscular like tannins provide good structure. Toasty vanillin cedar, scorched earth, fennel and blackpepper elements are carried through to the back half. A large scaled, ultra decadent wine by any measure it finishes long with an opulent chewiness to the mouthfeel. Trophy winner at the 2018 New Zealand International Wine Show for Champion Shiraz.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
