2016 Mountadam Five-Fifty Shiraz
Sourced from fruit grown entirely on the Mountadam’s estate vineyards the Five Fifty range of wines deliver great value. The name taken from the vineyards location at 550 metres above sea level. Maturation took place in 3 year old and older French oak barriques for a period of between 9 to 12 months.
Very moreish and rich this is an excellent entry level offering from Mountadam.
Totally opaque black dark red core with a dark red black tinged hue. Aromas of spicy dark plums and liquorice blossom from the glass followed by hints of black cherry, smoky vanillin cedar and blackpepper. Rich, juicy and moreish the palate possesses plenty of pepper and spice dishing up mouthfilling flavours of dark plums, liquorice and ripe black cherries. The undercard made up of smoky cedar, a touch of savoury meatiness and spicy blackpepper. Excellent length and concentration with sturdy, slightly chewy tannins providing a solid framework. Long conclusion of spicy dark plum, black cherry, liquorice, smoky cedar, some meatiness and blackpepper.
